Derives its name from the superficial resemblence of its fruiting structure to that of the true buckeyes. Grows to be a large shrub to a small multi-stem decidious tree. Its primary landscape feature is its pink-purple spring flowers that resemblethose of Redbuds. A decent yellow fall color sometimes develops.

Soil Needs It can take slightly heavy soil, but prefers good drainage, or even soil that is a little on the porous side.
Tolerances Drought, alkaline soils (pH > 7.5) tolerant. High pest resistance.
Features Pink flowers, fruit remains through winter. Not suceptible to cold and has a very attrractive fruit. Grows in bright shade or will grow a little bigger in a sunny spot.
Problems Requires pruning to develop one or more trunks.
Comments Tolerates most any soil as long as it is well drained. Very heat, drought and soil salt tolerant. Performs better in eastern portions of the state than most West Texas natives.
