Chinkapin Oak is an overlooked medium to large deciduous shade tree suitable for use in much of Texas. It is native to portions of Texas and can tolerate a range of soils and exposures, including those of limestone origin. A relatively fast growing native, the acorn of the Chinkapin Oak is excellent food for squirrel and deer.
